What is the JHood?
the JHood is about lighting up the world and getting Melbourne inspired.
Who?
The JHood is a small group of men and woman. Most people involved are between the ages of 18-25, but it is open to any Jew.
Why?
We feel that Judaism must be lived, not practised.
The JHood plans to reginite Jewish passion, switch on our own internal lights (G-dly souls), and help others in the Jewish community do the same thing.
The JHood belives that it is the future generation of Melbourne that has the responsility to do something proactive to make melbourne a more spiritual and enlightened place.
How?
The JHood is mainly influenced and driven by Toras HaChassidus, particularly by the Lubavitcher Rebbe and Shlomo Carlebach.
Chassidus reveals the essence and deeper meaning behind all aspects of creation.
The JHood uses chassidus, as an approach and as an outlook, to provide genuine jewish expreinces, through music, torah, song and communal gatherings.
These gatherings are inspired by the well known Chassidic teaching of Milmalah Lematah (above to below), which dictates, that at times, people need a spirtual or 'higher' expreince to occur to them, in order to incoperate change in their lives.
Farbengens, Music Jams, Parties, Friday night meals - all with Jewish content are extremely powerfull tools through which we can change our lives, the community and the entire world.
When?
Currently the JHood meets every Thursday night for an informal learning session on the weekly parsha. The gathering is also a social event to bring people together, always ending in saying a L'chaim!
Plans are underway for a monthly Melaveh Malkah/Party, with live music Havdallah and chassidic stories to occur the first Saturday night after Rosh Chodesh (Jewish new month). The JHood will also arrange events for Jewish Life Cycle Festivals, such as Purim and Lag BaOmer.
Where?
The weekly learning session are held at the home of Adam & Tzivi Szental. All other gatherings are held at various locations.
Good Shabbos & JaHbless!
